Hi-I just added to my desktop the National weather service radar. Sometimes
it works just fine. At other times I receive the mess. "This file does not
have a program associated with it. .....
I realize I have to go to folders but I have not a clue as to what to
do from that point on. Clearly & slowly please- for those of us a tad
"challenged."

Unless you supply the extension or file type, it is hard to help but:

Associations can be set in:
Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types
or Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options-File Types

or you can right-click a file and select Open With

And Alan where do I locate the extension or file type?

Go to Folder Options> and remove the checkmark from Hide Extensions for
Known File Types. I may not have the wording quite right (the Windows
machines aren't on now), but the setting will be obvious. Now you will
see the file extension which is the three letters after the "dot" in
the file name. Ex.: document.doc

Windows associates a program with a file extension. It knows about a lot
of extensions. In the above example, Windows knows that a *.doc file is
an MS Word document (sometimes can be opened with Wordpad if MS Word
isn't installed on the system). When Windows comes across an unknown
file extension, it will ask what program should be associated with it.

Extensions should show on the end of the file name, e.g. .txt, .doc,
..htm are extensions.
If they do not, use Folder Options-View and uncheck "Hide extensions
for known file types"
