I am running XP Pro and have Powerpoint 97, 2000, 2002 &
2003 all installed (due to need for backward
compatibility) My file association for .ppt is PowerPoint
2000 and I am unable to change it through "Tools", "Folder
Options"' "File Types". nor can I change it through "Open
with..." on a right click. It continues to associate with
PPT 2000.

Is there a setting in the Registry that I can change for
this to REALLY work?

(Yes, I know the possible problems with editing the
registry, back it up, know what you are doing, etc....)

Hi,

David Candy did utter the following words of wisdom:
For 2000, 2002, 2003 choose Help & Repair from Help menu in PP

Okay, your starter for 10 - why are you posting Windows specific stuff to
a RISC OS (comp.sys.acorn.misc) usenet group?

Simple method:

Click Start, Run and enter

ASSOC .PPT=PowerPoint.Show.8

This will reassociate PowerPoint files with your PowerPoint 2003.

Complicated method:

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt

The Default value should read PowerPoint.Show.8 for PowerPoint 2003. If not, double click where it says Default and change the value to match.

Next, go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.8\shell\Open\command

Locate the Default value and it should read something similar to this:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\POWERPNT.EXE" "%1"

This the path to the PowerPoint 2003 executable. If its correct, then you're done.
