I helped a friend setup her new Windows 7 HP desktop unit. It came with the 60
day trial suite of MS Office 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 Viewer preinstalled.

I uninstalled the trialware package and it left the PP Viewer as an orphan.

Is there any way to re-register all of the applicable file types other than
using the "Open with" routine?

Here's what I've tried so far:

1. Ran the /regserver parameter
2. Uninstalled then reinstalled the PP Viewer
3. Reinstalled the File Compatibility fix

No joy for any of the above.

The only files it will open at present are the pps type, which I used "Open
with" to configure.

Hi,

I am not really sure what other file types you want the PP viewers to open
but another way of changing the default program would be by right clicking on
a file(with the format you wish to use for PP viewer) and click on
Properties. Select the " Change" command button and choose PP Viewer as a
default.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for that tip.

FWIW, here's what MS says are all of the file types that the viewer could
handle.

(This is a quote from the download page)

"Note PowerPoint Viewer 2007 registers with the .ppt, .pptx, .pptm, .pot, .potx,
..potm, .pps, .ppsx and .ppsm file extensions only if a version of PowerPoint is
not installed on your computer. If registered, double-clicking on these file
types will launch PowerPoint Viewer 2007."
