File association situation

Mozilla hijacked my htm file assocaiations, normally open those files
with Netscape. I went into View/folder options/file types, reset the htm
file type to open again in Netscape.

After cold boot, now, nothing opens those files. I looked back in File
Types and the path to Netscape is right.

What utility will help me find the problem here and fix it?

In the Windows Explorer, hold down shift and right-click on an HTM file.
Select "Open WIth", select "Always use the selected program... " and find
Netscape in the list. Click Netscape and click OK, and it should then launch
HTM files. You may need to do the same with HTML files.

been there, done that . . . ;)

took me a while to figure it out again . . .

In Mozilla: edit/preferences/advanced/system - then *uncheck* the
preference boxes for HTML etc etc.

Once you do that you should be able to set your preferred browser in
Windows Explorer (if necessary - it may not be).

Thanks, Susan. When I set up Mozilla yesterday, that's one default I
missed. But, even after uncheck, Mozilla persists in hijacking the
htm/html file associations, even after I reset them.

Mozilla is now history for me. Like many programs, it reacts different
with each computer and the OS with it's history. I notice Netscape 7
browser does not do this, even though it's a child of the Mozilla
builds.

Thanks, Bob. See my reply to Susan.
I know that's a normal way, but I've not usually had luck with that
method, same this time. I noticed this: I was working with a *.html
file, in the open with screen, the legend at the top said htm file.
Mozilla had so screwed it up that simply trying to open the file, I got
a print screen, so the open action had been totally changed. I got
things back to normal with the Explorer File Types function.

They hid it pretty well, didn't they? :)

Well darn, thought that would work for you. :( (IIRC we're both using
Win98.) Rats and phooey . . .
