Okay here's the problem. I have XP Pro installed on my home machine and
I have all the updates (as of 2 days ago). I am trying to associate the
old wmp6.4 with my avi and mpg files (uses less mem and I'm more used to
the old interface). Problem is, it wont let me! When I dbl-click on the
files, they launch wmp9. I tried going into the file associations
section under tools directly and setting it to the old wmp, selecting
"always use this to open this type of files" or whatever it's called,
but next time I try to dbl-click, it still opens it in wmp. I tried
changing it on-the-fly (open with.. file associations.. wmp6.4, always
use) and same thing. Now here's where it get's REALLY bazaar.. yesterday
morning I installed winamp3 to test it out.. and by default it
associates itself with avi and mpeg files, so then I tried to open the
files again, and this time it played in winamp!! I was completely
baffled. I went into each program (winamp/wmp9/wmp6.4) and setup the
file associations in the programs selecting and unselecting what I
wanted. figuing that this was prolly the problem, again, exact same
thing.. it seems these files will associate with wmp9 or winamp3, but
NOT 6.4? any suggestions?

This may help...
In wmp9 under options, select the "file types" tab and
deselect the ones you dont want to accociate with it.
