File As fields are backward

When I add a contact - firstname lastname - my File As field thinks the first
name is the last name. If I go to the File As field, it shows the comma
after the first name (as if it were the last name - ie - suzanne, brady)
Can someone help me change this?

Not really. You didn't post your Outlook version. You didn't post the
settings you specified for the File As field. Examine those settings and you
won't need us.

For giggles, click the Full Name button to see what Outlook thinks the
fields actually...

Thank you - I clicked it - it does pull up the box for title, first, middle,
last, etc. but it puts the first name in the last name box and vice versa.
I have Office/Outlook 2007 and have tried repairing it and reloading it.
Thank you for not making this newbie feel like an idiot.

The settings you need to examine are located here:
Tools > Options > Preferences > Contact Options...
Does anything there explain the behavior you are seeing?

In my settings the default full name is First Middle Last but when I type
into the Full Name field it puts my first entry (which would normally be
first name) as the last name and my second entry as the first name -
I have actually gone into my forms, created a new form and included the
first name and last name fields. As I am typing into the Full Name field it
is placing them backwards (in the wrong fields).

Let's take this one step at a time:
- how are you entering the name in the field. I'm guessing you're entering
it as:
Vince Averello
(first-name last-name)
- is your copy of OL2007 a US English copy? Just making sure it's not a
foreign one
- is your system set to US English. Once again to make sure you're not set
to a language country that naturally flips the names

My copy of OL2007 is a US English copy - my system is set to US English.
I am entering the name as Vince Averello into the FullName field.

Could this be related to another post that I read regarding Outlook syncing
to handhelds and the mapping going haywire?

Typing into the Full Name field is taking chances on Outlook's ability to
distinguish between name elements. Not a recommended technique. It is always
better to parse name elements yourself.
You have introduced more confusion. You posted about problems with the File
As field. Now you are posting about the Full Name field. Could you possibly
reconcile your posts to eliminate this confusion?

It was when I typed the full name into the Full Name field, the File As field
recognizes the name backward. - Today, however, I started outlook and tried
to enter a contact and the file as field is working properly. Just like
going to a doctor with a limp and have it turn out to be a rock in your shoe.
Thanks very much for everyone's help. Hopefully it has corrected itself.

For future reference, you'll always improve your chances of names formatting
correctly if you parse the name elements yourself. Outlook may have problems
when the name elements are ambiguous.

Hello,

As i put new contacts into outlook 2007, the "Full Name" field shows up backward. If i open the detailed view of this, it has the first name and last name in the correct field. But as soon as i close it, the name is still backward.

Oddly, the "file as" field is correct, in my case i use last name, first name.

Old contacts show correctly in the "full name" field.

Any thoughts on what to look for?

Ed
