I want to turn off file and print sharing for microsoft
networks by using the registry and Ideas. Rather than
visit every machine I would just push out the registry
hack through a script

In a domain you can use Group Policy under computer configuration to disable the
server service on domain machines. --- Steve

What I am trying to disable is network settings on the
properties of the adapter, I don't understand exactly what
setting the server services will do.

The server service basically is file and print sharing, but disabling it
[server service] will also disable the ability to remotley manage the
computer via Computer Management. To disable just file and print sharing may
be possible with netsh command - I don't know offhand, but posting in the
win2000.networking newsgroup would probably bring you an answer to
at. --- Steve

If you don't need to manage these PCs, then disable the server service as
Steven stated ... if you (as an administrator) still want to manage these
PCs, but don't want users to be able to FaPS on their PCs, set the "Access
this computer from the network" right to only allow Administrators that
right ...
