I have a network which was set up and running fine under
FAT32. I converted my HDD to NTFS and now although I can
see the various folders etc I am denied write access to
them. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Check your permisions. The more restrictive permission between NTFS and
share will apply. by default they would be Everyone--full control on both
configurations. Windows 2003 changed this to Everyone--read.
