Just setting up computer with Windows XP. Have a second
drive installed from old computer that has all my data
files on it so I'll have access to them after getting the
computer setup with XP. Finally got XP up and running and
tried to access the files on the backup hard drive and get
to following error message: "file is not available. The
parameter is incorrect." I can see the file folders for
all the backup files; but they all show zero in size -
there appears to be nothing in the file folders. Any files
I had loose (not in a folder) on the backup drive are
accessible.
I can't afford to lose all this data. Can anyone help????

Is this "backup drive" just a plain ol' HD w/ FAT32 or NTFS partitions?
IOW, it's not some image copy or compressed copy of your previous
installation, is it?, it's just the HD and partition(s) as they existed on
the old system, right? Did you perhaps have compression specified for the
other system (as part of the normal installation, not something I recommend,
but perhaps you enabled that feature in the C: drive's properties, the
"Compress drive to save disk space" option that NOONE should be enabling!,
for example).

Try taking ownership of the folders. If you type"take ownership" in help and
support, it gives pretty good directions on what you need to do.
