Fields in Received Documents

I know how to set up the date and time fields so that they remain
constant whenever I access or print a word document that I've created.
But I receive documents from others where whenever I access them the
current date is inserted. My copy of Using Office 2003 says that I can
place the insertion point in in the field and press Ctrl+F11 to lock a
field. Is there any way that I can have a systemic "lock" so that dates
remain the same as originally written? Thanks,

Art

Unfortunately, locking a field after it has updated is closing the barn door
after the proverbial horse, etc. What you can do instead is replace the Date
field with a CreateDate field, which will not update. See

Thanks, Suzanne, that worked! I went back to the document, put in the
original date and set the CreateDate to not update. Thanks, again.

You don't need to set a CreateDate field not to update. A CreateDate field
always displays the date the file was created. You could, of course, also
type the date in as plain text.
