Field Misalignment in Permanent File

When I generate the permanent file from a merge function I
get misalignment of fields when I import the log into
Excel.

This misalignment seems to be caused by certain kinds of
entries in certain fields and may be related to the
presence of commas in certain places on a line.

This has rendered the permanent file production utility as
completely useless, when it is absolutely necessary for
the capability I am trying to develop.

Cheers
Paul

Maybe you could explain what you mean by a "permanent file." Your message doesn't hint at anything Outlook related.

Sorry.

Permanent File refers to the optional file in a mail merge
that logs the contacts.

Cheers

If the goal is to create a file that works in Excel, you would be better off creating that file directly either by exporting or by using the results of a Word merge rather than the interim file. Depending on the format that Word uses (I've never investigated it.), fields where the data includes commas or line breaks could definitely be problematic when you try to use it in some other application that it's not designed for.
