My phone system runs on Windows 2000 Server. Whenever I try to do a Search
for a file, a dialog box appears asking me to do some type of installation
for Office 2000 Premium. It won't let me cancel out once it starts, it just
keeps restarting. The only way to get rid of it is through task manager.

Office XP is installed on this server, and our office has never had Office
2000, so I have no clue as to where this coming from. Any ideas on what's
causing this and how to stop it?

It sounds like the typical dialog you get when you ask an Office
application to do something and you didn't include a component that it
needs when you originally installed Office. Why it would pop up when you
are doing a regular Windows search or why it won't go away, I can't imagine.

Have you tried letting it complete the dialog to see what it's looking
for? It will probably ask for the Office installation CD.

Problem there is I don't have the disk it's looking for. We've never used
Office 2000 and I have no idea why it thinks it's installed. Since this is
our phone server, I am very wary about experimenting. don't want phones
going down in the middle of the day due to a forced reboot or a crash.

Yes, I see your point. Best to leave it and see if someone more
knowledgeable than me can pinpoint the problem. Certainly weird if
you've never had Office 2000 on the system.
