I recently bought a hewlitt packard media center pc. It has all of the good things like an ati radeaon video card and 2.8 p4 processor. But for some reason when I try to run FF7 the game loads extreamly slow and after I select new game the game just locks up. I already checked my directx software and it says that everything is working fine, if anybody has any idea as to what could be causing the problem I would like to know.

I have the same problem with a self built PC.

Athlon XP 2500, Radeon 9700Pro, Win XP Pro SP1.

I have been able to get FF7 started, but once I select new game it locks up - I've tried running the ff7.exe in Win95 compatability mode. No dice.

Can we please get an answer on how to make this work, OR if it is just unable to work under XP. Thank you.

Hi Mark (and Sean),

Hey, this is Mark Kuznia again. I tried the ff7xp patch that Jimmy S. told me to download and it still does not work. when I run the configuration file it says that the 8-bit paletted textures failed. I don't know if this has an effect on the game but if you could give me some feedback on it I would be extreamly greatful.

Hi Mark,

If you get an error regarding 8-bit palette textures failing, don't be alarmed.
That's just part of the technology used to swap graphics to and from memory.
As long as you're using the most up to date drivers for your video card, your
game should run fine. Try updating your Video drivers using the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers
