Feel like an Outlook moran

I have been asked to back up my outlook at work on CD's. I work alone on a
construction site so have no IT department.

I am running Outlook 2000. When I look at the previous office personnel's
back-up CD, the emails are in individual folders and I am able to open them
in the CD. They are still in Outlook format. I do realize that I have to
create separate folders to put the emails in but I have no idea where to
start.

I have looked at "How to Outlook" but I think that if I just burnt the .pst
file, it would not open without me associating it with a program. Nor could
I make sub-folders to put the emails in.

Anybody have a clue how this was done? When I looked at the "details" of
the CD, it said it was a file system CDFS. Okay....that helps me out, ahhhh,
- none..

I would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Missy,

Create a folder on your desktop called email...Create an inbox subfolder
sent items subfolder etc. In outlook select all the messages in the inbox
(select one message and then CTRL + a) you will then be able to drag and
drop all the message in the inbox to the folder on your desktop.

When you have everything moved over burn it to a cd.

She wants to be able to add folders and messages... Simply backing up the
pst or exporting it will not allow her to do this without telling outlook to
use it..

No she doesn't - she's simply looking at how other people have "backed up"
their Outlook folders. No need to do all that at all. Just as P A Bear says,
make a copy of the pst file.
And in fact if she uses the archive function it's even easier both for
backing up and searching the backed-up mail.

Sounds to me like she wants to make subfolders....

Chris: I tried this and it worked. Maybe it is a few more steps, but it
works for me. It looks just like the back-up of the CD that the other office
assistant did. Thanks so much, all of you, for your help. I still am a
moran :) Just not a stressed out moran anymore. Youse guys are the best!

If you want to backup only the messages, you'll have to save the individual
messages as EML files (which will still be opened /by/ OL) or TXT files to a
Windows folder (and subfolders in it) created for the purpose.

If you want to backup the messages in OL folders and subfolders, you'll have
to backup the PST file itself and then import the PST file back into OL to
read them or move them to other folders.

Wrong....Outlook messages are a .msg file Which can be read by Outlook...

Wrong...again Did you not read the response from the original poster

Drag and drop a message from Outlook to your desktop...Double click it and
outlook will open the message...
