One of the feed rollers on my epsom 640 is not gripping.
I've wiped it with methylated spirit & roughed it up a little
with sandpaper; to no avail.Any thing else I can do?

Sounds like it's worn and of course it's plenty old enough to be worn.
You might have better luck cleaning it with naptha (lighter fluid is
naptha).
If that doesn't work I'd think about doing something mechanical. You
don't want to bend and break anything, but somehow you need to take up
the gap there. One thought I have it to apply contact cement to the
rollers. I would put some on my fingertip and rub it on the roller. As
this dried the thickness of the roller would be increased.
Maybe the fault is not the roller at all. Perhaps the timing of the
feed is off so when the roller is turning it is way out of contact
with the paper. No amount of gripping will help that problem.. You
would need to retime the mechanism. I think there is another post on
how to do that. I've had the 640 apart before and I don't want to
repeat it. Just my luck I'd get it fixed and it would clog.
