I posted a few days ago about how to find out if it's the CPU or MOBO when
booting is just not possible. I sent for a new CPU and it arrived today in a
nice cardboard box from Fedex. When I opened it I saw the plastic protection
was broken all to hell and back. It looked like they threw it off an
airplane. It is an AMD and the broken plastic even scraped the thermal pad
partly off of the HS. Got a RMA and it's on it's way back. The CPU looked
alright but I still couldn't boot up so I don't know if it's damaged or
what. But it sure took a pounding. The good part is I got a RMA # for the
MOBO too. So I'll be starting fresh. Parts were bought from newegg. No
problem about returning for replacement, I've done it before.

Wow. Ive never had a damaged package yet. People post all the time
about damaged packages and many claim Fedex is far better than UPS but
UPS in Hawaii is great in my experience. Ive never had any problems
and they are far faster at least to here , than Fedex. Seems like UPS
came here first though Im just speculating and set up a bigger system
so Fedex was left with the crumbs so they dont seem to have as big
presence here and have fewer flights scheduled to come here so it
takes 2 days longer or more for most packages sent here even if you
pick 2 day delivery for both Fedex and UPS --- UPS is far faster.

Now USPS Im not knocking them cause if it wasnt for USPS I wouldnt get
anything cheaper than FEDEX and UPS which are super expensive here -
20-30 bucks to send a CPU or screw here. However their service is a
bit erratic. I sent a thing to Minnesota ---3 days fantastic. Bought
3 things from Amazon sent USPS to me. One arrived in 3 days and it
was free shipping so thats incredible.

Another thing sent in the same order on the SAME DAY you can see a
rough tracking with it ----- spent TWO WEEKS in the USPS system. YOW !
And Im still waiting for another which has taken about two weeks so
far. Its not so much the time as the fact it really increases the
chances of it being stolen or damaged.

Awwww... Poor baby. Too bad you live in frickin' HAWAII I guess. Sucks
to be you.

Well at least Im not you that I can be thankful for .

Sorry about that reponse . No need to start a stupid flame war.
Just had it up to here with wise guy reponses out of nowhere recently.
Why they are all over the place the last two weeks I have no idea.

You thought about that first post for 2:30 before you decided to attempt
to put the shit back in the horse?

My point still stands, however. Hawaii is a long way for a package to
come. The fact that one every so often is damaged is quite admirable
when you think about it.

Now go to the beach and leave me alone so I can enjoy my 30 degree
temps, you bastard.

Didn't mean to start a war and I'm not knocking Fedex. It's probably one in
a million. By the way I live in NJ and Fedex has always been prompt. It just
suprised me when the box showed no physical damage on the outside and the
contents were
demolished on the inside.

If there was no sign of trauma to the box, then the part was
either shipped damaged already, OR Fedex was trying to cover
their ass by re-boxing it. I"ve never heard of Fedex
reboxing but then who could tell if the original box were
generic Fedex box and they reprinted same label?

It works for me. Few enough people make an attempt to mitigate their
regrettable actions as it is. Without commenting on anyone's
culpability, I can say that I'm impressed with John's conscience.

It's a shame you didn't think to make that point before.

It might have been shipped damaged. They RMA'd it right away??? Seemed awful
easy???

I wasn't actually making a serious point before. My first reply was a
joke. As was the second, for that matter.

Well the post was sort of off the wall but in retrospect it seems to
have been an attempt at humor which I didnt get at first, since I had
read so many vicious troll posts recently it struck me initially as
the usual stuff ---- like that Kadatcha Man guy posting under another
name again. I then thought it was a misreading of the posts to begin
with combined with an attempt at humor.

come. The fact that one every so often is damaged is quite admirable

See if you want to make that counterpoint you should address it to the
OP who was making that point , I posted Ive never had a damaged
package yet and was commenting that around here UPS is much better
than FEDEX though many think the opposite where they live ------- you
know the usual inane patter of newsgroups.
Now go to the beach and leave me alone so I can enjoy my 30 degree
temps, you bastard.

Ill bite ------Well its sort of tough now temps have fallen even to
the 70s. It even rained a few times so there were far less chicks in
bikinis and sailboats out recently. I live within walking distance of
the beach next to Waikiki next to the biggest mall here with some
supermarkets and a Walmart next door and even then the area is clean
safe and decent with tons of tourists walking around all the time. So
I can walk a block or so to shop. Kind of boring actually with the
weather always around 70-85 sometimes hitting 90.

Life is tough. And get this Ive had a cold for the last few weeks.
And of course I dont live right on the beach. Will the hardships ever
end?

And to add to that ---- the fastfood places around here stink. Hard to
find a good hamburger and pastrami sandwich.

It's a shame you didn't think to make that point before.

I think I totally misread that post . Like I said for some reason
there have been lots of ridiculous posts attacking people recently
that werent meant to be funny but just off the wall attacks in various
groups so my funnybone wasnt working at all.

In another newsgroup I could have SWORN that there was a series of
posts attacking everyone including me calling us idiots for making
some casual comments advice about playing the guitar . I started to
diplomatically argue with the guy and got in a thread that started
snowballing but when I reread the message it was nothing like I read
late at night so I felt idiotic . The guy was slightly obnoxious but
basically you could tell he was trying to help everyone and it wasnt
abusive in tone at all.

Hard to say, from all reports Newegg is usually that easy to
get an RMA from. Their customer service may not be perfect
but considering the merchandise, variability in customers,
it's quite good.

How hard did you want it to be? I'd hope all vendors you
deal with will give you an RMA without hassles if the
product arrives damaged. They are the ones who have to get
remedy from the shipper so they have to be in possesion of
the damaged merchandise (or have shipper come to inspect it)
unless they just write it off as a cost of business.
