FD works at DOS level. Replaced w new dr.
Cannot access FD to 1. cpy files to dr, 2. format
diskette, 3. read access wants to reformat diskette. Any
attemps to do so fails at the end.
Get error message there is "I/O error" for the dr.
Deleted, reinstalled FD 5x, same result. Device Mgr says
there is no problem, device is working OK.
Reinstall device drivers changes nothing.
MS Troubleshooter for this (or any) device is a joke.
Serch of KB has very little to offer.
Any other sites that may have a solution (MS doesn't)?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like it might be a cabling issue or bad floppy channel on the
motherboard.

It's funny, I have the same problem on a computer I got
from surpluscomputers.com. It uses a VIA chipset at 1 GHz
processor speed. The floppy works great but win2k doesn't
like it. According to VIA, their drivers must be
installed to make the floppy work. Check it out at
www.viaarena.com. If you have a VIA chipset, that is.
Also, if your FD controller is based on a Winbond chip,
you need to have SP3 or SP4 installed.
