I'm having trouble setting up Fax Service with XP(home)...
Following the instructions in XP Help and several MS KB
articles, I end up with the Fax Console message "All fax
printers are inaccessable" when I try to send a fax from
Word 2000. The Fax Console doesnot register a fax (in,
out or sent). And the Fax Printer Status shows
the "Local" printer X'ed out with "Connection error".
Shown in the Control Panel; Modem 1,Standard 56000bps
Modem, attached to COM1, driven by Modem.sys and Modem 2,
USRobotics 56k Voice Win 1806, attached to COM4, driven by
USR1806V.sys.
Shown in the Control Panel: Default Printer, Cannon 600,
attached to LPT1 and a FAX printer (Microsoft Shared Fax
Driver).
Have reinstalled XP Fax and the standard modem, the USR
modem and Cannon printer work well (otherwise).
help!

I forgot the best part...
On one try I delayed the sending time. When that time
arrived, I could here the modem dial and wait for a
handshake, 2 or 3 times. No record was found in the Fax
Console.??

You need to install Windows XP Service Pack 1. Certain registry keys on
which Fax depends can be wiped out by certain update or repair operations in
XP and causes this behavior. SP1 fixes the problem. Alternatively:

1. Save the attachment to this post (or paste the text between dashed lines
at the bottom of this message into Notepad and save it).

2. Rename it RPCProt.reg

3. Go to Windows Explorer and double-click on RPCProt.reg - this would apply
the key to the registry (assuming that Merge is the default action).

3a. If double clicking the RENAMED file opens Notepad or WordPad, go to
'Start|Run', type REGEDIT, click OK, then go to 'File|Import' and navigate
to the file.

4. Stop and restart the fax service.

The contents of the attached file:
--------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocols]
"ncacn_np"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_ip_tcp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncadg_ip_udp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_http"="rpcrt4.dll"
