A friend has an ADSL+2 connection with Bigpond and wants to set up the
faxing part of windows XP Home.
He has a DSL modem (2Wire 2071-A). The fax wizard sees no modem connected,
so he can't set up this facility.
We have been told we need to install a Fax modem, is this the same as a
normal dial-up modem?
Also, does this modem for faxing have to be internal so the fax wizard can
find it?
Tried goggling for the answer but getting conflicting comments like, you
need a fax modem, no
you don't need a fax modem. That's confused us more.

Please Help

TIA

you need an ordinary modem NOT adsl, connected to your phone line.

Yes

Can be internal or external (USB). It is likely that your friend's
computer already has an internal one.

You need one.

Thanks Ushere,
The ordinary modem and the DSL modem can both be connected at the same time?
Won't they conflict with each other?

no problems at all. modem to telephone line (with filter like normal
phone). they can both co-exist happily on the same pc.

Just to emphasise - your friend MUST fit an ADSL filter between
the analogue modem and the telephone line.

In the UK, most filters look like an adapter with two output
sockets. One socket serves the analogue (or voice) connection
and the other socket serves the ADSL connection. However, I
believe you are in Australia - so the filters may differ from the
types normally found in the UK.
