How do I configure my Fax services to use my Magic Jack Phone instead of a
standard phone modem? I am a fairly competent computer user in general, but
am a completely innocent babe in the woods when it comes to this function.
Please be gentle.
Sometimes it's better to just get the pain over with and rip the bandage
off quickly.
Magic Jack is designed to allow your computer and broadband connection
to substitute for a phone line. A fax/dial up modem is designed to be a
SLOW substitute for broadband and a fax machine (fortunately that
function operates at full speed). Pretty much opposite functions. The
facsimile functions of Windows (and most other facsimile software)
wouldn't know how to use the Magic Jack as a fax modem, even if such
function is electronically feasible.
I don't know if the signal processing Magic Jack utilizes maintains
enough fidelity to allow a fax machine to operate through it. In the
event that it is (considering it such would be a gamble) fax function
would probably require the installation of a Fax modem (internal ones
were at one time CHEAP) and a modular phone connection between the fax
modem and the Magic Jack hardware.
Better probability of success using an on-line fax relay service. Google
"fax over Internet" (use the quotes).
