I have a Canon MP730 (printer, copier, fax, scanner). I want to use the fax
machine to send a fax to a long distance number. How can I configure the
fax number to use a calling card to send a fax to a long distance number?

Thanks!

Read help on dialing rules. In the fax wizard click on the dialing rules
button to set it up.

I use a calling card for my toll and long distance numbers and it works
fine. My only problem was trying to set it to automatically handle toll
calls and long distance calls from the address book. What I finally did was
to set up 2 sets of dialing rules. I use one for all non calling card calls
and the other for calling card calls.

Isn't this all done within the Canon machine and does not require a
PC to send faxes? Windows XP should not be an issue. Read the
manual for setting up the Phonebook. The MP730 has its own 33kbps
modem and does not use the one in the PC.

I see the "dialing rules" in Win XP, but I see can't get the Canon MP730 to
dial the calling card when I have the fax sheet on the machine. Does anyone
have a Canon MP730 and configured it to use a calling card?

Thanks.

Exactly. I don't need a computer to fax using Canon MP730. However, I
don't know how to configure or set up the MP730 to use a calling card to fax
long distance. I have been reviewing the manual and searching on the
internet...nothing so far.

According to the manual, you can create a speed dial with up to 120
digits. You would have to dial the number first manually to see
what responses are required to complete the call. You would then
have to program in the access code, PIN, pauses and finally the fax
number you want to reach. All this and the connection to the
distant fax machine have to be completed within 45 seconds or the
CNG tones will end before the two machines can train on each other.
There has to be at least five seconds of overlap of the CNG tones
and the answer tones from the distant fax machine. The critical
thing is the length of the pauses. Each pause is two seconds long.
When you make the manual call, time the interval between your entry
of digits and the request by the calling card service for the next
set of digits. If the timing is not right some of the digits might
be missed because they are entered too soon or too late.
