Exactly. I don't need a computer to fax using Canon MP730.
However, I don't know how to configure or set up the MP730 to use
a calling card to fax long distance. I have been reviewing the
manual and searching on the internet...nothing so far.
According to the manual, you can create a speed dial with up to 120
digits. You would have to dial the number first manually to see
what responses are required to complete the call. You would then
have to program in the access code, PIN, pauses and finally the fax
number you want to reach. All this and the connection to the
distant fax machine have to be completed within 45 seconds or the
CNG tones will end before the two machines can train on each other.
There has to be at least five seconds of overlap of the CNG tones
and the answer tones from the distant fax machine. The critical
thing is the length of the pauses. Each pause is two seconds long.
When you make the manual call, time the interval between your entry
of digits and the request by the calling card service for the next
set of digits. If the timing is not right some of the digits might
be missed because they are entered too soon or too late.
