Faxes pending forever!

I think the problem that I'm having might be related to
how I'm entering the sender's fax number. I was assuming
that since my phone line is local I did not need to enter
a dialling code. Nonetheless I have tried entering the
number without a code, with the local dialling code, with
the national and local dialling code etc. I read an
article which said the phone number must be in 'canonical
form' or it won't send. I don't know what this means.
Can you help please?
 
Canonical means "in striaght form, or rule" which pertaining to this would
come out like 4863684259. no dashes.
