Why is there no basic fax program associated with home premium, or office
standard? Please add one. I am upset with my upgrade vista and office 2007.

Sure, how much are you willing to pay for it?

I just want a basic one like the one in xp nothing special and it should be
included in the program.

FAX not available in Vista Home Basic Premium. It is available in Ultimate,
Extreme and Business.

You might consider Snappy Fax at a slight cost:
http://www.snappysoftware.com/

or the Free version from BVRP:
http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp

or a full BVRP Classic Phone Tools 9: $29.90

I’ve used all of these. Snappy fax screen look a bit crude but the product
actually is fairly feature rich and works fine. BVRP also works fine,
screen looks a little better. Other than that, there are minor differences
in performance between the two.

I too miss having the faxing option in Vista Home Premium. I read somewhere
that it was to be included in the SP1 upgrade, but I have installed SP! and
no faxing ability. I think this was a big oversight on the part of Microsoft.

I downloaded Snappysoftware.com. and it held hostage a program I needed.
I had to uninstall it, then restart, then find where it really did not
uninstall and REALLY had to uninstall it then restart it, before it would let
me open my excel document again.
I was on pins and needles as the document was work related. At this time I
would not recommend snappysoftware.

I wish they would just put in the fax, I have already written them.

What about this fax software?

it looks good. Has anyone tried it?

I helped my brother buy a computer for his small business. I am considering
telling him to return it and get xp instead.. Which would cause him a
hardship at this time.. When I go to download.com there is a $199 Windows
upgrade option to get windows fax.. I feel I let my brother down..

This is all true. Why didnt Microsoft tell us about this in the first place?
I was on the phone with Dell almost an hour. They tried to get my Vista Home
version to send faxes. Nothing worked. The modem works fine. If Microsoft
wants to remove features in Vista Home Preimum that XP had they could at
least tell us about it. Tell Dell about it too. Their tecks - at least a few
- didnt know about this.

Thats right. I have SP1 as well. No fax

From what I hear, it seems MOST people didnt know Microsoft removed the fax
feture in Windows Vista Home Basic Preimum that was available in Windows XP.
And there is nothing in the help section that tells you about it.

Why is it that Microsoft offers vista as a big step forward and forgets the
basic fax program left behind in XP? Oversite or moneymaker?

Marketing group drove this decision, the artists who created the software
wanted everyone to access and use this feature.

I agree. Microsoft should not take functionality away with what should be a
new and better operating system package.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS..... I can't believe Microsoft simply deleted the feature.
Extensive use of the HELP facility doesn't even deal with this subject --
it's just "non-existent" and obviously ignored.

What are one's options to install a FAX program with Vista Home?

Since you require a modem to send a fax, and every modem I've seen comes
with fax software, why would you want to worry about no fax software within
Win?

This is a bad one, microsoft should advised its customers that this product
was not to be included in the lower versions of MS Vista
