Is it possible to receive a fax on a pc?
And what kind of software should I use to make this work?

I don't own a faxmachine myself, that's why I ask.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a stupid question, but is it possible to receive a fax via a
high-speed connection?

You need a fax modem and fax software. Or, you could use efax, which
has a free mode involving using a number out of your area and a
proprietary file format for which they provide a free viewer. They
e-mail the faxes to you and you can view/print them.

SOS has quite a few fax programs listed on his site, probably a good
place to start. Here's a list of those and others:

eFAX

FancyFax

my repost here is only a demonstration why a working SIG delimiter
"--space" does the community a favour: If this would be a larger growing
thread, each posting/reposting brings all your lines after your wrong
SIG delimiter. Imaging a thread with perhaps hundreds of
postings...brrr. Expecting every reposter could/should eleminate these
lines per hand would be *very* unfriendly imagination. So please correct
your Mail-/NewsClient producing a veritable, working SIG delimeter.

Together with avoiding toppostings and unecessary quotings this
newsgroup would become much more readable.

Thanks in advance to your (and all the others) understanding.

Thanks for all your replies,
I'm using a dsl connection
so I' ll see which program works for me.

(snip) (adware)

But adware is off topic in this group, even when it's labeled as such.
Adware is not freeware. Besides, there's this little jewel from
their user agreement page:

"YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THE FREE SERVICE IS SUBJECT TO j2 GLOBAL'S "FAIR
USE" POLICY FOR FREE ACCOUNTS. YOU WILL BE IN VIOLATION OF THIS POLICY
IF, WITHIN ANY MONTH, YOU RECEIVE MORE THAN TWENTY (20) FAX PAGES,
EXCLUDING ALL ADVERTISING OR INFORMATIONAL MESSAGES SENT TO YOU
DIRECTLY BY J2 GLOBAL. IN THE EVENT YOU ARE DEEMED TO HAVE VIOLATED
THIS POLICY, J2 GLOBAL WILL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU OF THE VIOLATION VIA
EMAIL AND OFFER TO UPGRADE YOU TO A PAID SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE."

If a person is looking for work or doing a lot of faxing for some
other reason, this is an unreasonable restriction.
