Fax Sender for Windows XP?

Occasionally I want to send an old fashion fax instead of an email
[usually to a retailer who doesn't have secure on-line trading].

You would have thought this would be basic functionality considering
all PC modems these days claim to be fax modem's as well. I don't want
to use an email to fax facility as this would still put your credit
card details abroad on the Internet.

I have been searching for a freeware to send faxes, but so far
everything I have found turns out to be shareware. I want something
you can either compose a fax in directly or which creates a fax as
a printer driver from word or other program. Can anyone point me in the
right direction? I don't need to receive faxes, just send them.

Is XP's built in fax program one of the undesirable "email to fax facility"
apps or will it fill your need? I'd appreciate a reply because I'm soon to
need a secure fax send capability and I don't know the first thing about
XP's built in program. Thanks in advance. juzme

I'm not sure there is one? If so is it an optional component?
Or is it an option that comes with office? I will try
and find out if no one can tell us.

In my XP Home, I go to:

Where does the link point to? I don't seem to have a fax icon anywhere.
Leads me more to think it's an optional component.

Apparently, your Fax wasn't checked during install. I can't be 100%
certain, since my XP came with the 'puter on a "restore (Ghost)" disc, but
maybe you can go through control panel and install it off your XP disc.
Good luck. juzme

Try this free Fax software. It works with broadband and dial up, you need to
have a duel phone adaptor for your modem and phone line to be connected to
use with broadband.

Check this site out,http://www.blackice.com/impColorFax.htm, which has
a program, Impact Color Fax Lite 5.0. It is a basic faxing program
with receive function, as well. No cover page, only one modem port,
other limitations but works great for basic faxing.

Thanks for help on this - Yes I managed to install the fax services,
and seem to have managed to send a fax with it, so yes, if you have XP
and possibly other versions of windows you should be able to use
the fax facilities there, which probably explains why there aren't many
freewares that do this!
