Fax Receiver Failed to Start

Dave

I have a network with Exchange 2000 Server and a variety
PC's with various versions of Outlook (97,2000, XP) These
all work fine however for some of the users I have also
got a Citrix Server running Outlook 2000. When the users
connect via Citrix they get the following errors:

The Fax Receiver Failed to Start
Symantec Fax Starter Edition Port Starter, Error return
code from CreateNamedPipe = 231

The Email Services Options are set to Corporate or
Workgroup

Outlook on their local machine works fine so I'm assuming
its something set wrong on the copy on the Citrix Server.
Any idea how I can get rid of this? We don't use faxes
from Outlook anyway.

Thanks

Dave

This is not seem. Only IMO mode of Outlook 98/2000 ever had Symantec Fax
Starter edition.
There is more to this story.

That is why I am stuck. I don't think I should be getting
this message.

OK, I think I may have some more related information.
Occasionally some users are also getting another error
message:
wfshell.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x77fcbacc" refrenced memory
at "0xfffffff8". The memory could not be "read".

I believe wfshell.exe has something to do with setting up
printers in Citrix, so I'm wondering if this might have
anything to do with faxes? Still don't understand why I'm
getting that message though.

Can I uninstall the Symanted Fax software as we don't need
it?

Thanks

Dave

OK, so I think I have the answer - seems that Symantec Fax
Starter is not compatible with Terminal Services which is
the cause of the problem - (as we don't have the IMO
option though I wouldn't have thought it would have caused
a problem but obviously it does). It needs to be
uninstalled which looks like a bit of a pain according to
the Knowledge Base article 195600.

Still doesn't fit. There is no way you could have installed SFSE without IMO
mode having been installed at some point.
See if you can disable WinFax SE by unchecking the Symantec WinFax SE
extensions in Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-in Manager...

So finaly got to the bottom of this. Got rid of the
problem by going into the All Users profile > Start Menu >
Startup and deleting the reference to Symantec Fax Starter
Edition which was in there.

Cheers!

Then you must have had IMO installed at some point. You can't get SFSE
without it. It was a little booger of a program.
