I have installed a LesMark X63 to my laptop and now I
don't know how to fax from my computer. I also have a dsl
broadband on it and I cannot fax period. In the Windows
XP if I want to send a fax and I have a fax device on my
computer I can fax from my computer. Why can't I do that
with my LexMark
The Lexmark is not necessary to fax from your computer. If your
computer has a fax modem connected to an analog telephone line, you
can fax directly from an application using the computer's fax driver
as a print destination. The Lexmark can fax directly from its tray
through the attached phone line whether a computer is attached or
not. The Lexmark becomes involved in computer faxing when you want
to use the Lexmark as a scanner to get a paper document into the
computer for annotation or editing prior to faxing from the
computer. If you simply want to fax a piece of paper, why get the
computer involved at all? From a quick review of the manual, it
appears that you cannot send a fax from the computer through the
Lexmark printer or send a received fax from the Lexmark to the
computer except by scanning the paper document and saving it as a
file on the computer. Computer fax programs only can send faxes to
communications ports or virtual communications ports. The USB
connection between the computer and the Lexmark does not incorporate
a virtual communications port.
By the way, you may have difficulty getting the computer to go on
standby while connected to the Lexmark. If you have that problem,
search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for a solution.
