Fax program for XP

My printer only has a scanner, not a built-in fax. I was wondering if there
was a program that would allow me to fax Word documents (and pictures too,
but that's not as important).

Thanks.

I'm on cable, but I do have a 56k that I could hook up.

Check START->SETTINGS->PRINTERS AND FAXES. IIRC, fax requires a standard
modem. They used to be set to xmit at 14.4 baud. I hunted around awhile
back but couldn't find any that worked over cable modem. That had been
about a year back and I haven't kept up with it since then.

XP has a nice fax utility, but you need a fax modem and a free telephone
jack.

Baud? You must be an Ancient One like myself.

I still have an old RS 110 baud external in storage back home...along with a
1000TX and 1000HX.

There is a free FAX service that I have tried to use in the past (not
very successfuly I might add) but it's been around since 1993 and is a
sort of open source community project. It's here:

http://www.tpc.int/

There are apparently a group of clients that use the service, some of
which are bound to be XP accessible, but mostly not free (I think).
As I type, there is a Google Ad for the service to my right : ).

And what an appropriate sig you have! It's amazing to me that in this
day of broadband throughput, and with many faxes being computer to
computer or to modern fax machines that have built-in memory so that
you don't have to wait for a thermal printout of each page before you
send the next one, that faxes are still limited to 14.4.

Oh yeah...I can still remember chip-level programming. (that would be
registers)...and programming for FOSSILs. (ancient and mysterious
communications critter).
