I followed all instruction to set up my fax services, and
everything shows that it is ready, however, it also says
that I have to select the type of modem I have since the
computer cannot detect it itself. How do I know what
kind of modem I have? I know one is installed in my
computer, as it was setup before I moved, but now I am
having a hard time setting it back up properly. Also,
with call waiting, does it have to be disabled while
sending a fax?

Thanks,
Teneil

We have no way to tell you what kind of modem you have. Have you looked in
Device Manager? XP fax requires an analog fax modem that is on the Windows
XP HCL list.

I assume that you are using XP. Also I presume you are using a Microsoft
certified modem.

First you need to find out if your modem is installed properly. Go to Device
Manager [Right click on My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager].
Check if your modem shows up under Modems. Go to Diagnostics and click Query
Modem. If the test succeeds your modem should be operating properly.

If so, next bring up Fax Console [Start->All
Programs->Accessories->Communications->Fax->Fax Console]. Launch the
Configuration wizard [Tools->Configure Fax. Make sure your modem shows up in
the list of modems for sending fax. If it shows up, the checkbox
corresponding to that should already be checked. If you want to receive a
fax, check the checkboxes in the list of modem which receive faxes.

Call waiting is not currently supported.
