Fax printer inaccessible

Hello,

I have installed a new 2003 standard server. Went well. Now I installed the
fax server and can fax from the server with no problems. When I connect with
my XP-Pro workstation I can fax. When I connect a user with XP-Home they
cannot fax. The fax is shared with the groups administrator (me) and
everyone. Our DC is a NT 4.0 box. All other services work fine.

I have tried all the fixes and suggestions that I can find with no avail. We
run Terminal services on the 2003 box and all users can connect to it and fax
from it. But workstations cannot.

On the workstations the users get Fax printer inaccessible in the control
panel.

Any ideas.

Thanks

1. Is the XP client machine SP1 or more? If not, please update to SP1 or
more.

2. The user you logged on XP home - is that a local user on client or domain
user? If it is a local user, it goes as anonymous to the server. If the user
is a domain user - is that user authenticated on the server? I mean, can you
log on with that credential directly on the server? If the user is a local
user, you can try a work-around of creating a user with same name/password
on the server.

Otherwise you can try enabling the Security Option (from "Local Security
Settings") for (Security Options) -> "Network Access: Let Everyone
Permissions apply to anonymous users". The reason I suggest this is because
with the default security settings, even if you have faxing permissions for
everyone, that permission won't apply for anonymous users. This setting
enables that. However, note that you will be changing a security setting for
the system - anonymous users will be always treated as part of everyone for
your system. So, be careful before you change this setting.

Thanks,
Anand

I was having the same problem and your suggestion worked for me. How would
I restrict network faxing to a specific security group?

Give "Print" permission to the security group on the shared fax printer.
