Fax numbers not wanted

I recently changed from Outlook Express to Outlook for email, and I find it
less efficient. With OE, I always have my email contacts on the left hand
navigation. Click twice and the new message dialog box is open with their
email address in place. Can this be done in Outlook 2003?

Otherwise, the main problem is that when I do want to select an email
recipient
for a message, the list comes up with both email addresses and fax numbers,
which I will never use for email. Can I have these fax numbers removed from
the
view?

The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

I'm not sure if there are better answers, but I will give it a shot.

As far as the contacts on the left side, I personally don't know how to do
that. A workaround may be to right click on contacts on the bottom of the
navigation pane and open in a new window, then configure those contacts in
Current View --> Phone List and turn off all of the tool bars. You can then
make it very tall and skinny, and I guess it could suffice somewhat. Of
course, you couldn't double-click on them and open an email windows, you
would have to right click and then click on new message. As I said, I am not
sure -- just a workaround I came up with.

As to the faxes, I had the same problem. There is a 3rd party application
from Sperry:

http://www.sperrysoftware.com/Outlook/default.asp

which takes care of that problem for you, basically by automatically
inserting the word "Fax" in front of all of the fax numbers which causes
Outlook to skip the fax numbers. I guess if you only had a few, you could
type them in manually.
