A 3 month old new lenovo 3000-N200 lap top with WinXP Pro OS that has a
Data/Fax modem and the first time i've tried faxing with this machine. When
in fax mode after the fax wizard is completed and the "Finisn" tab is clicked
to send the fax, I hear dial tone and the lap top dialing 1+AC then the phone
line slams to an instant fast busy and in about 1/4 second or less the
remaining 7 digits dial over tne fast busy. This happened on 3 faxes I tried
to send. Then, i tried faxing to a local 7 digit number and the same thing
happened after the first 3 digits were dialed. When not trying to fax, the
comp dials my ISP ok. An ATT fast busy is an error indication that whatever
was dialed prior to the fast busy is not understood by ATT. My desk top with
WinXP Pro faxs perfectly and the fax numbers can be dialed on the telephone
perfectly so it's not an ATT trouble.
For readers: note that lenovo/ibm machines ONLY HAVE MECHANICAL SUPPORT and
offer NO TECHNICAL/OS SUPPORT WHATEVER!!! Bewars buying lenovo product.

Is your Dialing Location properly setup?
Are your Fax numbers stored in Canonical (International) format?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247192/en-us
You Must Enter Telephone Numbers in Canonical Form in Order to Use Dialing
Rules

Dialing rules may not be applied to tools such as Fax and Phone Dialer on
Windows XP-based and Windows Vista-based computers
