Fax not waiting lon enough for other fax to answer.

I tried to send a fax, but my fax does not wait long enough for the other fax to reply. Just as it wants to reply on the other end my fax hangs up.
How can I extend the waiting time?
 
You can keep your modem occupied longer by adding several commas to the end
of the number you're dialing. Each comma adds a couple second pause to the
dialing sequence; adding several should keep the timeout from starting long
enough for the other end to respond.
