Does anyone know how to use a ADSL phone line to use the
fax on. As XP seems to demand a modem instead of using
the ethernet connection. ?

Thankyou

Fax requires that the sender dials to the recipient.. bear in mind that most
fax recipients still use the ubiquitous fax machines which require a dial
in.. DSL connections do not dial in.. the process used to connect a DSL user
to a server is very different to the process of connecting to a phone/fax
machine.. use a 56k modem for this facility..

You can't fax via ethernet. You need the kind of phone line you can
talk over. If your telephone is connected to your ADSL line (using a
filter), you can connect a standard fax/data modem there -- either
instead of the telephone or with a two-line adapter. I don't know if
there are Radio Shack stores in Australia, but llok here to see the kind
of parts you need: http://tinyurl.com/ser3 There's even one unit that
combines a DSL filter with a duplex phone connection for US$13.59
("Isolates 2 phone devices from ADSL noise"). Remember, however, that
if you connect your fax this way, you will not be able to talk on the
phone at the same time you are using your fax machine, and both your fax
and your phone will "ring" for an incoming call.
