I'll start by saying I bet I don't even get a response on
this.
I have an Access XP database that uses automation to
create a fax message (with attachment) to be sent in
Outlook 98 through MS Fax (Win 98 SE o/s). Everything has
been working fine. Nothing I know of changed on the PC or
with the software. Suddenly, it doesn't complete the
sending process.
Watching the process, all seems to be going smoothly. The
Access application runs its code, a new fax message is
created, MS fax attempts to send it, it says it is
dialing, the modem can be heard, but it never gets past
the dialing stage.
In Outlook, 2 report messages appear...one in the Sent
Items folder indicating it was sent properly, and one in
the InBox, indicating it wasn't (it says they didn't
answer or it is not a fax machine).
Possibilities:
1. Fax modem. It dials, it receives incoming faxes, its
diagnostics check out, it has the latest driver.
2. Phone line. It works fine when I hook up an actual fax
machine. It accepts incoming faxes.
3. Access database. Nope, it's doing its job. The same
problem occurs when I attempt to print to the fax driver
in a Word document.
4. MS Fax. Don't know. If the problem is within MS Fax,
how do I diagnose? I just reinstalled everything within
the last month.
5. Outlook 98. It appears to be doing its part. It sets
up the message, renders the attachment and passes the
whole thing off to MS Fax without incident. The only
peculiar thing is it gets 2 report messages back regarding
the success of the fax (one says successful and one
doesn't).
6. My fax destinations. They are fax machines and they do
receive faxes regularly. I've even faxed from the same
phone line using a fax machine.
I'd like to avoid doing a whole reinstall, because it is
more complicated than it might seem. Come on gang, toss
me an idea or two.
