fax failure after XP repair

I recall a MS tech support solution to the failure of the fax module to work after a "repair" reinstallation of XP. Had to do the repair recently, fax isn't working again, but I've forgotten the trick. Anyone know / remember? I seem to recall the technician knowing immediately what the problem was, but I can't find any reference in the MS KB stuff I've searched.
 
What part of the software is not working ? Is the send and recieved grayed
out? Jym
