How many of you use the "Fax Console" that comes with Windows XP ? I just
installed it and it seems to be less easy to use than the "Phone Tools"
program I used on my old machine. Is anyone comfortable with the Microsoft
Fax Console program ? Do many of you use a different fax program ? Which
one ?

G'Day Babel17,
I spend several hours mucking around at home 6 months ago, with the program
trying to get it going and basically gave up. I could get it to ring the fax
machine at the other end, but it hung up after sending 7 bytes of data.
There may have been Fax protocols that were incorrect, but ?.
It was faster placing one sheet of paper in an envelope, and mailing it,
posting it,than to scan a document, store it, set up a telephone line
connection (I am on cable), and sort out the bug, and I haven't needed to
fax from home since.
For a regular user I think it is limited, and better value is in the
purchase of a combined plain paper fax/ printer, and a scanner as a stand
alone feature.
It all depends on your own needs, and I don't need a fax, only once in a
blue moon !!!

Rob.

G'Day to you, Rob !
It is a clumsy program, isn't it ?
I am in a field where few businesses have e-mail, but all use fax
extensively. Therefore, I have the need to send numerous faxes.
I probably will play with Fax Console for a while, and if it doesn't get any
easier, I will install Phone Tools from my old (Windows 98) computer's
installation disk and see if it works on a machine running XP.

XP Fax works fine for me, never had a problem sending or receiving.
Only issue I have is that it is not easy to combine pages from
different files.

It works fine for me too, just seems clumsier and requires more clicks than
my old program.
