Just wondering why the fax console which is part of xp
doesn't seem to be following the settings I have set in
the configuration. I want the monitor to pop up when a fax
is incoming and have set this in the properties under the
tracking tab. also to play a sound. when i receive a fax
neither of these things happen. any clues anyone as to why
this may be happening? Maybe the monitor does not pop up
automatically but thats what i was expecting or at least a
sound to be heard but neither occurs. yes the speakers are
on and volume up before you ask...
Thanks.

A number of standard update and repair procedures disabled the Fax Monitor
in the initial release of Windows XP. These problems were fixed in Service
Pack 1. Make sure you apply SP1 if you notice this problem. The following

thanks it seems this is the problem. Now I have another
problem. it seems that win xp won't load anymore since i
installed the new fax modem. it works fine whilst the comp
is on and you have loaded it. if you shut down you are met
with XP version of BSOD. Saying soem errors have resulted
and you may need to change BIOS settings etc. Plus you get
a hexadecimal error message which I have not noted at this
stage.Perhaps this should be posted in the modems section
but I'll try here anyway. Hopefully someonce can say if
tere is a conflict of somekind between my built in modem
and my external modem which is a Zoom USB V.92 external
modem. My internal modem is a Dell Data Fax Modem though
while listed as working properly in XP, does not seem to
be recognised by the fax software when I try to make it
recognise it. Oh well its frustrating as hell..:-(

Sounds like a driver conflict to me. Not sure why you needed to install a
second modem, but I certainly wouldn't expect XP Fax to survive in that
environment.
