The latest security patch wiped out my favorites list.
The favorites are still there in a folder, but IE is
looking elsewhere. How do I tell IE to look at the old
favorites folder in c:\documents and settings. This is
windows XP home...

Right-click the start button, Explore.
You could copy the Favorites folder over to documents and
settings\yourname\

Incidentally, since there may some partial lists of favorites, be
careful to have the favorites list you want. Not a bad idea to back it
up somewhere.

It occurs to me that you might check with Find to see if your
Favorites list is still in place but hidden. Designate subfolders and
hidden folders in the search. If it's where it belongs but designated
as hidden, change the attribute by right-clicking, properties,
un-check hidden, and apply\okay your way out. Try Favorites in IE
again.
