I recently made changes to my Favorites List. These changes show correctly
when I click on Favorites, but in the directory the changes are not
reflected. How do I update changes to my Favorites list in the C directory?
Thanks in advance, Fran

Keep in mind that "Favorites" are different for each user of the pc. Did
you look in Documents and Setting/your login/Favorites?

Yes...this is where I looked. The Favorites there do not match the list and
name changes when I simply click on the Favorites button! All help is
apprecited. Fran

What type of changes?

You are seeing 2 separate views of the Favorites folder. Changes such as
renaming, deleting, creating folders or shortcuts will be reflected in both
views. However, changes such as moving folders to a different position in
the Favorites menu will not be reflected in the directory view when seen in
Windows Explorer.

In the directory I am not seeing new folders I have created, as well as
renamed folders and files.
Thanks for helping, Fran

It is a LIST and only a LIST. As long as the list works
what difference does it make? I change the favorites
list daily and I am not going to waste time looking in
the directory for changes.
Find the fav/link...click...site appears. ?????

It is important to me when I do a back up from the directory and the list
there is not updated! So a List is not always just a List...if it is not
current and accurate.

To make sure that you are looking at the correct favorites directory that is
being viewed from within Internet Explorer get the free utility TweakUI from
the following website.

Download and install TweakUI for Windows XP
www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Once it is installed, expand the My Computer section and click on Special
Folders. Use the drop down menu and select Favorites. This will show the
location of the folder that is being used.

I think you may be using the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites
folder.

Ronnie,
Thank you so much for your help. I followed your instructions and found the
correct Favorites in my ISP folder of all places! How the heck do I
"update" my C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\Favorites folder? It seems to
me that it automatically updated with any new changes in the past? Fran

Somehow that Favorites folder was moved to it's present location. This may
have been done when you installed your ISP's software. You can use the
TweakUI utility to move the folder that is being used back to the location
of your choice. In the Special Folders section, select the Favorites folder
and click the Change Location button.

I left a step out of my last message. Before you change the location of the
folder with TweakUI, open Windows Explorer and right drag/drop the favorites
folder that is currently being used to the location where you want it placed
and select Move from the pop up menu. Then use TweakUI to change the
location specified in the registry.
