All of a sudden my pc (Win XP Pro, fully patched up to date) has changed the
source of I/Net Explorer favorites. It used to be My documents\favorites;
now it's C:\documents and settings\my_id\favorites. Anyone any idea as to
what happened/how to return to the old location?

TIA

John

The correct path is C:\Documents and Settings\user-account\Favorites.
The icon for My Documents which you see when you first open My Computer
is a shortcut to your real My Documents in the Documents and Settings
directory. I don't know why Favorites would have been out of the correct
location, but perhaps someone copied or moved the folder?

Does Favorites work correctly in IE now? If yes, then everything is
where it is supposed to be.

Many thanks. I wasn't sure which location Favorites should be in. I've
copied it over from My Docs and it's 100% now.

Glad to hear that's got it sorted for you. Thanks for taking the time to
post back.
