favorites just vanish

my favorites places just vanished along with the default
favorites aren't there either. where do they go? can i
get them back? or is this a place that can't be trusted
with crucial information to be stored? it's empty
completely.

In some cases it seems that the Favorites have become designated as
hidden after a hotfix install. Go to Control Panel \ Folder Options \
view tab. Check to show hidden files and folders. Apply\okay.
Now go to FIND. Look for favorites. Hopefully these folders will show
up as usual under documents and settings\etc\ . Right-click to clear
hidden. Apply and okay your way out.
