IE 6.0 SP1. With Win2000 SP2 (installing SP4 gives me blue screen) . I keep
several browser windows open and switch between them.
In the middle of a browser session, when i opened another browser session,
the favorites do not display. If I return to the older session, they are
there and I can use them there..
I tried doing a couple of things suggested here, unchecking some things in
internet options-advanced, and then I rebooted. now I cannot get the
favorites at all. I repeat, thy are physically all in the folder for this
user and do not appear to be corrupt (else why could the older bowser session
be able to read them).
Any suggestions? Spyware appears to be negligible.
Thanks, lcp

Sounds like u have gone down a long path and made lots of registry changes.
Hope u took a backup before making the changes.. I would suggest that u
restore your registry if possible.

Not knowing what registry changes you made it is impossible for someone to
suggest a solution.

From your description it appears that the problem with the History folder
not showing links when tabbing between browser windows is because you would
need to press the refresh button on each browser window that you tab to to
update the History view in that browser window.

The older browser session is able to read them 'cause the navigation
occurred in that browser window and was so reflected in the History frame
for that window.

If you are using the History Explorer bar for navigation purposes then
perhaps a better solution is to use the back and forward buttons instead.
They will keep an immediate history within the context of the browser window
that is doing the navigation.

Also the History frame will not automatically display on a new browser
window eg.

Open IE... Press the history button > The History frame appears...

Next Open IE > No History frame appears.

Close the first browser window that has the History frame visible.

Next Open IE again... > the History frame appears.

Rob, my problem is with FAVORITES not HISTORY. does this change your answer
about registry? my backup is too old to use.

Does the fact that regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE MICROSOFT Windows currentversion explorer usershell folders has
s "new" folder mean anything?

It sounds like the Registry key may be incorrect.

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys: (ignore the second if the value is not there)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

For Windows 2000/XP:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]
Set the Favorites path to : %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

The above should be a REG_EXPAND_SZ value, not REG_SZ

It indicates that at some point that folder was dragged somewhere else.
