Favorites Folder Hyperlinks

I do not know what happened or how it happened but everything in my
favorites folder is now just a text file. Even if I save a new web page
it will not work. I am using Internet Explorer 7 with Windows XP Pro.
My links toolbar within Explorer also are no longer are being saved as
a link. Any ideas on what I need to to do to fix this problem.
