Hello,
Can someone please help me with my Favorites and saving my passwords?

1) I have been recently reformatting my computer... I did save all my files,
address book and my Favorites...
My question is: how can I import my Favorites onto my I.e. from a file
located on my desktop? What is the step by step, the best method?
2) I want to save my password on I.e., how can you do that? You do have this
very practical option on Firefox Web Browser.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi kermor :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, nor the type of connection you
are using (i.e. Dial-up, DSL, Cable), but, try the following as it may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

You can use this free utility to back up many of your IE settings and files,
then transfer them to another computer:
BackRex - Internet Explorer Backup - Free Download
http://www.backsettings.com/internet-explorer-backup.html
Backsup all IE files, including
Favorites
Proxy & connection settings
Security zones
User customizations
Cookies
History
Dialup accounts
Form Autocomplete entries

If you use Outlook Express, use this one to back that up as well:

Did you use IE's File | Import and Export to save your Favorites or did you
just copy the individual files?
We will also need to know your Windows version.

Hi Gimpy :-)
Jan, can these programs be used to transfer that info to a disc instead
of another computer ? Gimpy\
Sure. Make a note of the folder that you set up to backup the files to,
then burn a copy of those files to a CD. Then on the new computer, or
destination, just copy the folder to the drive you want the on. Then import
from there. You will need to install the BackRex and OE backup programs on
the new destination to restore the files, but, you'd likely want that anyway
to use to backu the files on a regular basis. You can also burn the backup
files from the IE and OE Import/Export by just by burning a copy of the
backup file to the CD and then import them on the other end. I like the
BackRex because it will backup more types of files, and works very easily on
both backup and restore.

Hope this helps.

How did you back them up to your desktop? You have not told us that yet.
You would not import them into IE per se, but, to the Favorites folder on
your hard drive. The method you can use to do this depends on how you backed
them up to start with. Exactly from where did you back them up from, and
how, to that folder on your desktop?

Hope this helps.

well my favorites into an external hard drive.
-Then after my reformatting was done, I imported all my files including my
favorites onto my desktop and then start to rearrange all those files except
my favorites who’s still on my desktop. it doesn't take rocket science.
-He way I did copy/save my favorites: Start /Explore/Program Files I believe

Well, perhaps you can tell me where my Favorites folder on my hard drive is.
All I have to do is to copy my desktop Favorites and paste it into my

Favorites location in Windows XP if installed on C:
C:\Documents and Settings\logon_name\Favorites

You can get there by pasting this in the Start-Run box.

%USERPROFILE%\Favorites

Next time, it would be easier to use the Export tool (in
IE-File-Export) to save your favorites.

Hi kermor :-)

I see that Alan has given you the information on where to find the Favorites
folder. And, you can use the Export/Import method as Alan described, or use
the BackRex, which, if your folders are the same on the new computer are in
the same location as the ones you backed them up from, it will restore the
files to the folders on your new hard for you.

Hope this helps.

Thank you... so far I do follow you regarding the supposedly location of the
favorites...It's installed on C... I do have C:\Documents and Settings\ but
can't find logon_names\Favorites??? Do you think it could be into another
folder names?

?????

Mine is C:\Documents and Settings\Alan Edwards\Favorites
I don't know what your logon name is.

Did you try using %USERPROFILE%\Favorites from Start-Run as suggested?

You can always find out the location by:
1. Searching for a folder named Favorites
2. Right-clicking a favorite, selecting Properties and looking at the
General tab

Thank you... so far I do follow you regarding the supposedly location
of the favorites...It's installed on C... I do have C:\Documents and
Settings\ but can't find logon_names\Favorites??? Do you think it
could be into another folder names?

logon_names is a place holder for your actual logon name, the name you logon
to the computer with.
