Favicon will not display in IE

I have a favicon that I can't seem to get to display in the URL
address line or in the Favorites list of Internet Explorer 7. I have
opened the webpage using MSIE on three different computers (all three
have Windows XP Pro), and the favicon displays on none of them. Other
sites' favicons display properly. Mine displays correctly in Opera
8.54 and Firefox 2.0.0.4. The graphic is in my root directory. I have
cleared the "temporary internet files" and the "cookies". Here is how
I point to it between the <head> and </head> on the index page: <link
rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.zoofence.com/favicon.ico">. Is
there something else I need to be doing? Thanks. Francis
 
I wrote that "other sites' favicons display properly". Actually, I'm
wrong; they don't always. But mine doesn't at all. Francis
 
According to IrfanView, it is an invalid icon and is actually a .bmp with the .ico extension.

Download the free IrfanView fromwww.irfanview.com
open your icon in it, let IrfanView convert it and then save it as an .ico file and republish it.
