Could do with some thoughts/advice please.
Currently running a
Gigabyte GA7VTXE with Athlon 1333 266
IBM Deskstar 120Gb (I Know don't tell me!)
Maxtor 40Gb
Geoforce MX2 400 64Mb
Pioneer A104
LG 16x CDRW
256Mb DDR Ram
For the past few months the PC has been freezing repeatedly, heard that
before.
By process of elimination it is not
Hard Drives, Memory or Graphics Card. (Swapped them all out for old bits
and it still froze)
The processor has been running between 60 and 68 degrees, but freezes at
any temperature between that.
I can get it to freeze by running processor heavy applications such as
Video conversion.
I have now set the Mobo jumpers to 100 Hz from 133Hz, voila. No
freezes. The processor is now running around 58 - 62 Degrees.
Question is is this a heat problem or a knackered processor?
I'm tempted to jump in and get a new Athlon XP, but if it is heat I
could have the same problem.
If the processor is knackered would it work if it was running slower
(Now running as a 1000 rather than 1333).
Any ideas what temp I should be getting.
I ran the PC at 133, took the side panel and pointed a bloody great fan
in the side of the PC to bring thw whole tmepertaure down and it still
froze, which suggest to me that it is a faulty CPU, but if anyone has
any other ideas or can support my thoughts I would be greatful.
Thanks.
