Thanks in advance for reading this
I would like to find a low budget solution to setting up 2 servers (brand new servers, same hardware, same software, same everyting) to be able to provide 99.99% uptime. Be able to synch the entire data including changes to windows and users and sql etc. Small biz with 30 users only.

I would be happy to bring failed server down and use the working server as the main server, 1-2 hrs downtime is acceptable. This supports my insanity for looking for a low budget solution

Thanks

I suggest you define your requirements more precisely. 99.99% availability
translates to less than one hour of downtime per year, assuming 24x7
operation. Is this what you mean? Or is downtime after hours acceptable? If
an outage of 1-2 hours is acceptable in a 8 hours x 5 days per week mode,
then 99.99% availability translates into one such failure once every 10
years!

What about power failures? Dual-input power supplies, fed from two
independent UPSs?

My feeling is that your availability figure is only achievable by throwing
lots of money at the project.

Sorry, I meant to say that I am Ok with bringing down the servers after hours, either after 6:00 PM or on weekends etc

The availability is important only during week days.

Also in case of a server failure, If I can bring the secondary on within a couple of hours it will be Ok as well. I was looking at the file sych software, only I am not sure if any of those will also synch the system and application software and windows crucial files as well? Of course if there is anything better I am all ears

Thanks for the response

Ali
