Still I´m working on dual boot for the purpose of moving everything to
WIN2000 but today´s task: Updating Word2000 to 2002 gave me an unpleasant
event. When installation was "successfull" I tried to run an OfficeTool but
was then presented to the following "Fatal Error":

Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection on
the network, or the CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this
problem, see C:Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\1033\SETUP.HLP.

The CD showed to be nice and clean, no problem to run the Dir command.
Running the Repair function was then interrupted by the same message. Even
worse: Obviously I cannot uninstall Word2002.
My guess is that the missing files originate from Word2000 which was deleted
through install. What can I do? Restarting from scratch will at this late
point be more than complicated.
So I´m crying for help.

The one who usualy handles technical problems in the local Word group is -
*me*.
I´ve just spent some hours to repeat the install of Office files (after
cleaning up & defragmentation). The result, whatever you like it or not is
the same:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
Detection of product '{0002044090 11D2 B60F 006097C998E7}', feature
'WORDFiIes', component '{CC29E963 7BC2 11D1 A921 - OOAOC91E2AA2}' failed.
The resource 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office \Office\WINWORD.EXE' does
not exist.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--

The fact, believe it or not, is that Word is working without problems.

The fact also is that exactly the same install in WIN98 is without that
problem.

Cos its impossible to repair Word without Word. However its easier in Win98
than in Win2000 where the error occur. Besides: Error 1706 is so common, so
many-headed, that any MVP´er should be able to handle it. By the way: None
of the solutions found solved the problem. I did.

Seems you left one out;

c.. when your computer has Office 2000 or Word 2000 installed.

This group deals in operating system issues, hence the reason you should ask
in the office and or word groups. Or one of these may help.
