I want to chnage my computer from FAT32 to NTFS when i
type in Run cmd and then the MS-DOS box comes up i type
in convert C:\ FT:NTFS, i then type in the drive label
and then push enter.
Then the following message comes up "Convert cannot run
because the volume is in use by another process. Convert
may run if this volume is dismounted first. All opened
handles to this volume would then be invalid, would you
like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n)

What does this mean and should i push y or n. What if i
press y, could you please tell me what happens

(i know that after a letter has been pushed the messsage
comes up saying that the computer can be restarted etc.)
i just want to know what happens to my computer after
(hopefully no data bieng deleted)

Just to confirm i am running on windows XP

Thanks, and i am looking foward to a reply

Essentially, the message you're seeing is telling you that CONVERT cannot
gain exclusive access to the drive - it's probably the drive that Windows is
loaded onto and is running from.

If you hit Y, Windows will try to dismount the drive so that it can convert
it to NTFS. If it cannot dismount the drive, it will schedule the
conversion for the next time the machine reboots.
